Having trouble with your pet’s behavior?

Just like other relationships in our lives, the relationship we have with our pets can be rockier at times and it can seem like it won’t get better. Many pet owners tolerate frustrating behavior from their pets until they feel they can’t take it anymore and want to be lifted of the burden. The decision to surrender a pet to an animal shelter should be made thoughtfully after considering other options, including seeking professional help for the frustrating behavior. While we are able to help many surrendered pets find happy homes, we cannot place them all. There are some behaviors we cannot successfully modify in the shelter and there are some behavioral characteristics most potential adopters are not willing to take on. Someone who already has a bond with the pet, even if it is being tested, is often the best chance the pet has.

DOGS
What people have been taught about dogs runs the gamut from old wives’ tales to scientific understanding of dog biology.  Many of the problems humans have with dogs’ behavior are actually normal, natural dog behavior and solutions might not be complicated or time-intensive.

CATS
Going to the bathroom out of the litterbox? Keeping you up at night? Scratching your furnishings?  These are not uncommon behavior troubles with cats, which means they have been worked through with many cats and their guardians–there are common solutions!
